A Preventive Discipline
An early orthodontic examination at age 7 when both permanent and baby teeth are present will detect problems early, helping to ensure maximum dental and facial development for your child. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t always have to wait for eruption of all permanent teeth to solve orthodontic problems. In fact, some treatment options are lost once bony growth has stopped. In many cases where teeth are becoming crowded, we will start making room in the mouth for new, “up-and-coming” teeth while the jaw is still growing. This will prevent or greatly minimize the need for removal of permanent teeth in the years to come, while maximizing the development of a beautiful face.

Efficient Treatment Timing
Not everyone needs braces, and not always at age seven or eight. An early examination shows if treatment is needed. We believe strongly in ideal treatment timing to prevent the removal of permanent teeth whenever possible. The ideal time to start treatment ranges from 7 to 13 years and older, depending on the severity of the problem, rate of tooth eruption, skeletal growth and facial type.

Adult Orthodontics
The technology is here, and the time is right. While our practice prides itself on early intervention – we’re especially pleased when an adult comes to us for care. Some people are pursuing treatment they’ve always needed, some are seeking to correct problems that come with maturity. In any case, adults who opt for orthodontics are making a choice for health. Orthodontic treatment, even for adults, is essentially preventive. If you have a “bad” bite – imperfect tooth and jaw relationships – your future oral function is at risk. When teeth and jaws are misaligned, enamel, soft tissue and jaw joints are subject to substantial wear and tear. Over time, this means tooth loss periodontal problems, or jaw dysfunction (TMJ problems). Many adults have orthodontics as part of a comprehensive strategy to replace missing teeth or to increase the longevity of their natural teeth.
